Get to know our Interior Designer, Ava MacLean

We’re shining the spotlight on another of our new recruits. Meet our Interior Designer, Ava MacLean.

Ava comes to us with a first-class honours degree in Interior Design from Heriot-Watt University and two years top industry experience. Ava is already getting stuck in and is supporting the team across a number of projects.

We sat down with Ava to see how she’s getting on…

Ava, you’ve recently joined Team Bell & Swift, how are you settling in?
I have been welcomed into an amazing team who continuously encourage and support each other. I believe that interior design extends beyond creating spaces which are visually appealing and instead creating spaces which enhance and improve our everyday lives. It has been clear from the get-go that Bell & Swift’s culture, team ethics and purpose reflect exactly this. This has created a fulfilling position to be part of alongside the talented team.

What is your role?
My role as part of the Bell & Swift team is to support team projects from concept to completion. Covering responsibilities across design development, technical and FF&E specifications whilst also for 3D modelling. I like to think of my position as a team player on the exciting journey Bell & Swift are on.

Why did you choose to enter the Interior Design industry?
Coming from a sporting background, the switch from track and field to interior design sourced from having an interest for all things creative and in all honesty from sheer curiosity. I am a strong believer that great Interior Design is much more than creating spaces that are visually appealing and instead creating spaces which enhance and improve our everyday lives - this is what fuelled the beginning of my design journey.

What’s your favourite part about your job?
Every day is different. Much like design itself, the industry is constantly evolving so we are always kept on our toes.

Where do you find everyday inspiration?
For me, the core elements of inspiration source from people, place and culture. I like to keep an eye out for design shows and supplier events whilst also virtually to keep on top of new products, trends and connections.

Outside of work, what do you like to do on your weekends?
I’m often told I’m a spur of the moment type of person. I enjoy exploring new places, participating in new activities and experiencing new music venues, bars and restaurants.

If we met outside of work, what should we chat to you about?
I would most likely ask what’s next! I’m always on the look to try new things whether that be trying new activities, languages or visiting new places.

Welcome to the team Ava, it’s great to have you on board!
